Having a low credit rating and credit score can have a devastating effect on your chances of being successful when you apply for credit. Your credit rating is what a lender will take into account whenever you apply for credit and if you don’t score high enough then your application will simply be rejected. However luckily there are ways that you can repair a bad credit rating and build your credit rating back up, which in turn puts you back into the good books with the lenders.

Tip number one is to take your credit cards and hide them or better yet take a big pair of scissors and cut them up to avoid being tempted. One of the very worst things that you can possibly do if you have a low credit score is to keep adding to the debt that you have already accumulated, if you have very little self-control then don’t keep temptation around you destroy them or hide them.

Tips two is to make yourself aware of your own credit report, if you have a bad credit rating then it could be through no fault of your own but rather an error in the system. If this is the case then it can be rectified providing of course that you know about it, you can apply for a copy of your credit report from any of the three main credit bureaus.

Tip three is to take the bull by the horns and do everything in your power to clean up your credit report. Follow step three and obtain a copy of your report and check this for errors. If there are errors then these should be rectified immediately and will help to get you back in good favor.

Tip number four is to ensure that you bring your payment history up to date, your payment history accounts for around 35% of your total credit rating, so it is essential that you bring any outstanding or missed payments up to date.

Tip number five is to never make any more credit applications then you really need too, when repairing your credit rating this is essential. The chances are that if you apply for more credit whilst having a bad credit rating you will turned down anyway.

Tip six is to think twice before you close down accounts that don’t have an outstanding balance, always check before you do close them to ensure that this won’t have an adverse effect on your credit rating.

Tips seven is to talk with those that you owe money too, if you are seen to be making an effort after having got into difficulty, then this will go in your favor.

Tip eight is to make sure that you pay off all your debts that you currently owe, this can improve your credit rating drastically.

Tip nine is to make sure that you realize there is professional help available for those who are in serious debt and to make sure that you get the help if it is needed. Again if you are seen to be doing everything you can to make matters better then this will be in your favor.

Tip ten is to have patience when it comes to repairing your credit score and rating, it is easier to get a bad rating than it is to repair your rating but with patience and perseverance it can be done.

Damaging your credit rating is far easier to do than it is to repair and recover from a poor rating. Your credit rating can be affected by several factors some of which might not even be your fault such as theft of your wallet or identity theft, identity theft is on the increase as many have found and have also found that even despite their rating being poor through no fault of their own, it can take months if not years to re-establish a credit rating.

Your credit rating can be compared to taking a test, before the lender will give you a loan, credit card, mortgage or any other form of credit you have to pass this test. This is to ensure that you will be able to pay back the loan and thus reduces the risk that the lender is taking on you, the higher your rating is then the less risk you will be seen as and as such are more likely to get approved for a loan. If your credit score is low then your chances of getting approved will be very slim if any.

While identity theft and crime are two of the reasons why your credit rating goes down there are also many other reasons. Factors that can affect your credit rating for the bad include such as making late payments on your bills or missing payment altogether, applying for and taking out more than 80% of the total amount of credit that is available to you and requesting too many lines of credit.

If you want to keep your credit rating on a good level then it is essential that you always ensure that you pay your bills on time, don’t use more than 25% of the credit that is available to you and make sure that you remain in steady employment.

Repairing a bad credit score is hard and does take time and patience but it can be done. To begin with you should request a copy of your credit score and check it for any errors or glitches that shouldn’t be there to start with, mistakes have been known to happen and these are the easiest to correct and improve your score. Never take out credit or request it unless you absolutely need to, for example don’t ask for a store card just to get the discount as this is still regarded as a form of credit. Make sure that you use your credit card less and if possible ensure that you pay off the outstanding every month on the card, always try to keep the balance on your credit cards less than 25% of that which is available to you. Perhaps the most important thing to remember is to avoid declaring bankruptcy although this might seem to be the best solution in the short term it is the worst thing you can do to affect your credit rating. When taking out any form of credit it is essential that you understand the consequences of credit and if not then seek the advice of a financial advisor before making a huge mistake.

If you have anything less than a perfect credit rating and credit score then your chances of getting credit of any kind will be next to impossible. You will probably have made the mistake of applying to many different lenders with the hope that one will say “yes”, however this will have only made matters worse when it comes to affecting your credit rating. However bad and for whatever reasons your credit rating is in trouble there are ways that you can mend it and put it right so you score higher. Your credit rating and score is what are taken into account every time you apply for a loan, mortgage or credit card, even a store card and you have to score a certain amount otherwise you will be seen as a bad risk and as such will be turned down for the loan. If you have a low rating you could still be offered a loan but you will be paying way over the odds when it comes to the rate of interest.

There are companies that claim to specialize in repairing your credit rating but these can do nothing for you that you cannot do yourself. When it comes down to setting your credit rating back up then the simplest and easiest way without it costing you a penny is to do it yourself.

The first step you should take is to obtain a copy of your credit report, this way you can see for yourself the state it is in and also what the lenders see when you apply for a loan. Sometimes there are mistakes which are no fault of your own on the report but which affect your credit rating and of course these should be dealt with and you should get the corrected as quickly as possible in order to start building back up your credit rating. This will cost you money and it does vary from state to state but on average it shouldn’t cost more than $10 for you to see what others see about you. The next step to take to bring back your credit rating is to ensure that all payments for debt that you currently have are brought back up to date immediately. If you are having serious problems with paying off your debt then it is essential that you contact the lenders and see if you can come to some sort of agreement for making reduced repayments. As long as you are paying and are seen as doing everything to take steps to clear your debt then this will go a long way in your favor.

If you have credit cards then cut them up, this will stop the temptation to use them and add more debt, the more debt you accumulate the more is shown on your credit report and this is exactly what you don’t want when trying to rebuild your credit rating and score.

Repairing your credit will take time, it won’t happen overnight but you can do it if you use some common sense and are determined to break free of debt.

If you have a low credit score and bad credit rating then you probably have realized by now how hard it is to get credit of any kind. The chances are that you have applied time and time again and will have been turned away from every single lender; if this is the case then you could be tempted to shell out even more cash in return for your credit rating to be repaired.

There are now more companies than ever online who claim that for a “small” fee they can repair your credit rating and so make it much easier to get yourself a loan. However one thing you should remember is that no matter what a company such as this claims that it can do, no matter how much money you pay them they cannot do anything that you yourself cannot do. When it comes to repairing damaged credit ratings then this much is true but this is the only thing that is true and better yet you can do the same things without having the need to pay someone else to do it for you. All that a company does that offers you the chance of repairing your credit rating is preying on your vulnerability, the worst of these types of companies will even charge you thousands of dollars and they simply cannot the impossible no matter how much they charge or claim they can. For instance if you have got CCJ`s on your credit rating record then these cannot just be removed, anything else can be improved but it takes time and you can take the steps that are needed yourself to bring your credit rating back up to scratch. If anything by going with such a company you will only be shelling out money that you can ill afford to do and even get into more debt in the process.

A far better solution to get your credit rating and score back up where it belongs it to try and improve your rating yourself along with taking advice from a credit counselor. A credit counselor is totally different and they can give you excellent advice on debt matters and ways of bringing your credit rating back up. There are some that will charge you a fee for doing this but then there are some free one around so it essential that you shop a round and find one that provides quality advice but which wont cost you a penny.

Never be conned into thinking that anyone can remove any negative factors from your credit rating report, any claims that they can do so are pure lies. Shady companies such as these have been under investigation and while they aren’t all to be classed as charlatans they certainly cannot work miracles and repair your credit rating instantly as some claim they can.

To avoid falling prey to one of the scams then do things the right way and do it for yourself.

Establishing and building up a good history when it comes to your credit report is essential as this is what you will have to depend on throughout your life when it comes to asking for credit of any kind. Your credit history is what all lenders go on and if you don’t have an excellent one then you are going to be turned down time and time again until you have managed to establish or re-establish your credit score and rating.

However when just starting out on leaving college you can also find it hard to get credit as you don’t have a credit history on which the lenders can fall back to determine how big a risk you are. Not having a credit history can be almost as bad when it comes to getting accepted for credit as having a poor credit rating and low score.

It is seen as nothing more than a vicious circle, you cant get credit because you don’t have any credit history and you cant build up credit history because you cant get anyone to give you credit in the first place. This is when you have to take matters into your own hands and do everything possible to begin establishing a good credit history.

Just as with anything that you start from scratch doing you have to build up slowly and the best way to do this is to lay down some firm foundations from which to work from. Simply by opening a checking account with the bank is one of the fastest ways to get off the ground, this will help you to establish financial credibility.

Following this you then have to set about proving that you are responsible when it comes down to your finances. This means that you have to be very careful to make savings and not to over draw on your account or to write checks that you cannot pay and so they bounce. If you are renting an apartment then always ensure that you pay your rent and any bills on time or before time, these are some of the quickest ways to prove that you are trustworthy and reliable and goes towards getting a step closer to establishing a good credit report.

Once you have got this far you can then apply for a small line of credit; however the emphasis here is on a small amount of credit. Do not go overboard and set your sights too high as this will only result in you being turned down and will go against you on your credit report.

If you choose to apply for a credit card and get it then don’t be tempted to apply for more than one. By doing so it is equivalent to waving a red flag in front of the lender and will probably send what you have established so far crashing down to the ground.

If you choose to apply for a loan then offer to put up a substantial down payment, this will show the lender that you are financially secure and this can make a huge difference when just starting out.

Whichever way you choose to go it is imperative that you take your finances and your credit rating and history seriously and act responsibly; it is harder to build back up a poor credit rating and score than it is to earn it in the first place.

The sheer volume of a relatively new wave of crime “identity theft” is on the increase, anyone who has you social security number, your credit card details and any other personal details can in just a short time become you and seriously damage your credibility, life and ruin your credit rating.

With the advancements in the technology of today stealing identities is becoming easier and easier. The con artist is a smooth talker and can soon get your social security number and date of birth; from here they can carry on and make your life a living hell by running up a huge amount of credit in a very short time. With just a few details gained from you they can take out credit cards in your name and rack up thousands of dollars in just a couple of hours. However most cards are covered and although the most you would have to pay back would be around $50 this is only the beginning. Once your credit rating has been blacklisted, it is harder to get it back up again even if this wasn’t your fault and you were the victim of identity theft or fraud, which means that when you come to apply for credit such as a loan your chances of getting credit are very slim or non existent.

Even those with excellent credentials before the theft can have problems and this was clearly shown when a NASA engineer who had been with his bank for 11 years was declined a loan after identity theft. Another example of the devastation that identity theft can cause was the woman who spent three years trying to build back up her credit rating and as such was declined a mortgage and missed out on what she described as her dream home. Identity theft can take just a matter of a few minutes but it can take a lifetime to put right.

To ensure that you don’t fall victim to identity theft it is essential that you remain vigilant and take a few factors into account. Always make sure that you do everything possible to keep your social security number safe, your credit card number, any account passwords and any other personal information. You should never give out any of this information to someone you have never met or don’t know, even if this is a company, you have to be sure that the company is a credible one and that they aren’t merely “scammers” seeking your personal information. When shopping online it is imperative that you take care and don’t store your credit card information details on your computer and only shop with a creditable and well established company.

When it comes to your wallet be very careful of what you should carry around in it in case it were to get stolen. Never carry your social security number around with you or credit cards unless you really know you are going to be using them. You should also ensure that you shred your mail especially any items that have credit card numbers, social security numbers or any other personal details.

Your credit report is what determines how successful you will be when it comes to applying for and getting credit and there are many different factors which can all make a huge difference to your credit rating, including major events that have happened in your past. In fact almost any major event that has happened in your life can have an effect be it a positive or a negative one on your credit report and rating.

When it comes to your credit rating it can certainly seem like big brother is watching over your every move, factors and events that affect your credit rating include the places that you have lived, a marriage, a divorce and the ways that you have spent your time. Having an excellent credit rating is essential and once it has fallen it can take a lot of time to get it back on an even keel, so all major factors in your life have to be taken into account.

If you get married then this can have an adverse effect on your credit rating, particularly if you are the woman and will be making a name change. Unless you inform both the credit bureaus and those that have loaned you money you will lose your credit history altogether and has to rebuild from fresh. If you plan on joining forces when it comes to getting credit after you are married, then you would also be wise to keep individual lines of credit and thus separate credit ratings. If you do decide to join together for loans remember that you are both responsible for repaying the loan and your credit ratings will be affected.

If for whatever reason you should divorce then you will have to let the credit bureau and creditors know of this decision. This will ensure that the integrity of your credit report remains intact after the divorce is finalized and it is imperative that all loans are paid off that were took out together or that an amicable agreement has been reached between both parties regarding the repayments to stop this negatively affecting your credit rating.

Other major life events that can severely affect your credit rating include buying a home, a mortgage will significantly increase the total amount of debt that you have on your credit rating and if you should make late repayments or get behind on mortgage repayments then this has a devastating effect on your credit rating that can take years to rebuild.

Having a baby will also put a huge strain on your finances and affect your credit rating on the negative side as the amount that you pay out will increase. The death of a loved one can also affect your credit rating especially if you share a joint account and line of credit. In the majority of cases you will have to rebuild your own line of credit from scratch and until this happens you could find yourself turned down when applying for credit.

As no one knows what the future offers it is essential that you take into account major life changing events as you are very likely to face one sometime down the road. It is always harder to repair your credit rating than it is to lose it and this is something that needs to be given some serious consideration.

Unfortunately very few people who have come across financial difficulty are ever given the chance to make amends however much they want to. If you have managed to get yourself a bad credit rating and low credit score then lenders are very reluctant to offer you any form of credit. If you are having trouble getting a loan or credit card then there is one option that you can take while rebuilding up your credit rating slowly, a secured credit card.

A secured credit card can be easier to get even if you do have a bad credit rating as it will require that you make a deposit against the amount that you are going to borrow on the card. As a result of this you aren’t defined as such a big a risk as when taking out an unsecured loan or credit card, because if you were to default on the repayments on the credit card then your deposit will be used.

The downside to the secured credit card is that you will only be able to borrow between 50% to 100% on the credit card and of course you must have the money in the first place to put down the deposit before you are given the card. However it can be an excellent way to begin showing that you are trustworthy and it can help to rebuild your credit rating which of course is essential. Another downside to the secured credit card is that will normally have fees attached to them, whereas a normal credit card would not. The fees which are attached to the credit card can substantially dwindle down your deposit and as such reduce the amount that you are able to borrow, but it can be one way of getting credit and the option of rebuilding a low or poor credit rating when all others have failed.

The biggest plus to the secured credit card is that due to the majority of bad credit ratings having come about due to poor payment history, then the secured credit card can show that you have changed your ways providing of course that you make the payments when you should on time. If you decide to choose this way then make sure that when the creditor applies for a credit check against you that they use all three of the bureaus for the check, the whole point and benefit of this is that you re-establish your credit worthiness and this will be the only way that you ensure your repayments are noted on your credit rating while holding the secured credit card.

It is essential that you bear in mind the whole purpose behind the card and that is to rebuild your credit rating, don’t be tempted to start adding to debt unnecessarily otherwise this will only have the adverse reaction to what you intend the card to be used for. Only use the card to make small essential purchases and ensure that you will be able to pay off the full amount that you put on your secured credit card each and every month.
When it comes to credit then almost all of us have to rely on it at some time or another. However if for some reasons our credit rating falls short then being able to get credit is impossible or you are charged expensive rates of interest for the luxury of being giving credit which leads to even more debt. This is where the “scammers” begin to rear their ugly heads with promises of fixing your bad credit rating and they have an arsenal of scams in their supply all of which you should avoid. Here are some of the main ones to watch out for and to be aware of.

Beware of anyone who claims that they are “in” with the credit bureau and that for hundreds of dollars of your hard earned cash can wipe the slate clean for you and bring your credit rating up to scratch in the blink of an eye. Your credit rating can be repaired but it cannot be done this way, it takes time to repair your credit rating and score and the bureau will not take a “back hander” from anyone.

Another scam that is widely used is the promise that if you part with your hard earned cash then the company can convince the creditor that you really don’t owe them the money at all. While it would be nice if we could wave a magic wand and make the debt go away in reality we know that this simply isn’t true, however it can tempting but you should avoid the temptation of this scam.

“Not only can we clean your credit record but we can also get you a loan quickly and easily by using our contacts”. This unfortunately one of the newest and also the more costly of the many scams that is travelling around at the moment, as the unsuspecting person is so desperate to get a loan they will often fall for the promise that not only will they be able to get the loan after being turned down elsewhere but also that their credit rating will be cleaned and they can start from fresh. The majority of these are nothing but conmen who will take your money upfront not only for the promise of repairing your credit but also take part of the money for the promise of a deposit on a loan.

Beware of those companies that if you call their special 900- number you will be able to get your credit rating fixed by taking their essential information that no one else but them knows. The truth of the matter is that this number is often a huge amount of dollars per minute and the person on the other end will offer you information is nothing more than you would be able to find yourself quickly and easily online while racking up a huge amount of money on the phone call.

Your credit rating can be repaired but you can do it yourself and the only thing that costs you will be the fee for your own credit report.
However they are both very similar in their ways when it comes to the fact of your financial future and how likely you are to be approved for a loan. When it comes to dealing with matters relating to your credit rating and repairing a bad credit rating, then it is essential that you understand the differences between the two.

Your credit report is your financial history, on this such things are included as your payment history including whether you were late making payments or missed them and the total amount of debt that you currently have outstanding. There are different types of credit reports, a single credit report provides information that is given out by one of the three main credit bureaus and a three in one credit report which is the most complete type of report and which takes into account information from all three credit report companies. The majority of the information which exists on your credit report comes from those companies which you have done business with in the past. When you apply for credit again, by law the lender can check this report and either grant you permission by giving you a loan or by turning you down for credit. Depending on how low your rating is some lenders will allow you a loan but then you will have to contend with paying an interest rate that are well above the standard and this means that you cannot take advantage of low rates of interest or interest free loans. With the information being so essential to you being accepted or declined, you should do everything in your power to ensure your rating remains in the high bracket. Once you have got a bad credit rating it can be improved but it does take time to repair a bad credit rating.

On the other hand your credit score is a number which is assigned to you that shows a lender how big a risk you are determined to be when applying for such as a loan, mortgage or credit card. The higher the number then the less of a risk you will be seen and you stand a better chance of being approved and the lower the number the chances of you getting credit are very slim until you take steps to repair your credit score. Your credit score is just as essential when it comes to the difference between you being granted or rejected for credit as this is a quick and easy method for the lender to assess how big a risk you are. Credit scores are generated by a computer based on the factors of your credit report and is based on the fact that your past can predict your future. If you are going to be applying for credit then it is essential that you have a high credit score so it is essential that you are familiar with both your credit score and your credit rating to improve your chances and not have the uphill struggle of repairing your credit rating.
